THE STORY SO FAR
Picture this, a Brigadoon – a magical city swirling through space and time. First embattled – overwhelmed by forces who wished to use its portals to control the cosmos. Then trapped in a year long stasis – overrun by criminal families and saved by heroes coming from the shadows. Freed at last! Only to find the city marooned in a mythical and fantastically dangerous realm of magic and mayhem. The great time engines that run the city’s peregrinations, straining against a continuous magical loop that held the city fast. Once again the heroic population of Key City swung into action, finding enough magic-eating mushrooms to cancel out the esoteric bonds that held the fabled metropolis in the lands of dragons, taverns and mysterious dungeons.
The mighty wandering metropolis can once again spin through time and space. But all the old maps seem useless and the familiar patterns that governed her many doors must be rediscovered. Grateful for a moment of peace, Key City denizens find themselves relishing a “vacation” of sorts…halcyon days moored near a beautiful, futuristic spaceport.
The slender towers are encased by a vibrant shining dome from which intricate ships from many planets come and go – some powered by solar sails, some by rockets, some by incredible fusion technologies. There are markets, breathtaking gardens and airships tethered around all the fantastical golden skyscrapers. But most of all – no dragons, no magic, no….chaos.
Or so they thought. Until the black ooze started to appear. Up from the sewers, down the downspouts – dripping from air vents and moving through the gutters of Key City. It almost seems to have a life of it’s own, seeking out any crack it can work it’s way through. And don’t think the fair towers of the host spaceport have been spared. The ooze is spreading..and spreading FAST. It is true, Key City could unmoor and travel away but at what cost? As a plague ship that spreads pollution throughout the dimensions? No, a solution must be found. Join the scientists (mad and otherwise) of the Key City Academy of Science and Technology as they search for a solution to this sticky problem. Test hypotheses, hunt for clues, and interact with NPCs to gather data points in The Game 2026 to determine the future in Key City Steampunk WORLDS OF TOMORROW. Will science find the answers? Or will it lead to an environmental catastrophe the likes of which the universe has never seen? Only YOU can steer the fate of the city!
HOW TO PLAY
DOING THE RESEARCH
You must conduct different types of Research for which you will receive star stamps and data!
ABOUT THE STAMPS . . .
Once you have received:
10 stamps – you can return to the Lab to get your Lab Tech ribbon. Your 10 stamps will be checked off to prove you turned them in.
20 more stamps – you can return to the Lab to get your Scientist ribbon.
Your 20 stamps will be checked off to prove you turned them in.
50 TOTAL stamps or more – you can return to the Lab to get your Head Researcher ribbon.
IF YOU LOSE YOUR LAB FIELD BOOK YOU CAN GET ANOTHER ONE BUT ANY UN-VALIDATED DATA POINTS WILL BE LOST! PROTECT YOUR BOOK!
– UNATTENDED LAB BOOKS MIGHT END UP IN THE HANDS OF AN EVIL SCIENTIST!
THE TYPES OF RESEARCH
Fundamental – Interact with Prominent Key City Citizens who will request something of you in return for a stamp – These citizens are listed in the booklet, visit our website and look at our list of Special Guests if you are unsure who these amazing folks might be.
Qualitative – Participate in some of our collaborative activities to receive a stamp – Nerf Dueling, Tea Dueling, The Costume Contest, The Fashion Show, The Fashion Game, Clockwork Radiant Rave, It’s Gotta Have a Hook!
Quantitative – Interact with various games and puzzles to collect data to further the hypothesis.
Applied – At the Lab there are various experiments set up for you to engage with to further your research and learn more to help fix the problem.
Peer Review – find scientific colleagues in the crowd who will ask you to perform a simple task for them to receive your stamp. Scientific Colleagues will be identified by a (!) symbol.
THE OBJECTIVE
If we collect the data to determine which hypothesis is the correct one to solve the problem perplexing Key City then the scientists will be able to create the 1 solution!
But…it appears there is a group of malcontents, driven by some unknown purpose, trying to prevent the fix and keep Key City as some pollution-spewing plague ship.
What motivation do they have? No one is sure, but these Evil Scientists have apparently submitted a false hypothesis, and are trying to skew the results to have that be the chosen solution!
EVIL SCIENTIST RULES
Evil Scientists may try to convince you to turn over your Lab Field Book. If you are recruited by the Evil Scientists you will receive an identifier to make you known to other Evil Scientists! (This will be a glowstick you must wear somewhere visible on your person.) At this point you are ALSO considered an Evil Scientist and can try to recruit your friends and loved ones. You are allowed to take Lab Field Books that are left unattended or persuade someone to give you their Lab Field Book – you are NOT allowed to take a Lab Book from someone’s person. You can then take any acquired Field Lab Books back to the Lab and have unmarked stamps counted towards the hypothesis of the Evil Scientists. You will show the Lab Attendants your glowstick so they know the stamps count to the Evil Scientists’ hypothesis.
