THE GAME

At last! The hard work of folks just like you finally freed Key City from the perpetual rainy nights and crime ridden dramas of Steampunk Noir.  It is so wonderful to be free at last in lands, that while unfamiliar, are at least sun drenched and captivatingly magical.  Except for the trolls.  And the bugbears.  And the lack of indoor plumbing and the questionable food safety…. look at least it stopped raining, ok? But no matter how hard the City tries to pull away from these mythical realms, it just keeps getting pulled back into some kind of orbit around these same enchanted towns.

  Seems we collected a few too many magical artefacts and now Key City is SO magical it can no longer access more technologically advanced societies (see the continuing story in the VAULT at keycitysteampunk.com if you want the whole scoop).  But fear not! Our mad scientists have been hard at work looking for a solution to the problem.  And it seems like it’s time for everybody to do some mushrooms.  Er.  To go MUSHROOMING rather.

JOIN the Adventurer’s Guild and help shape Key City’s future by going on epic quests to collect the magic eating fungus that will save us from eternal outhouse usage and endless dungeon crawls (ugh you just can’t get the smell of torches out of your hair).  Key City needs YOU to join the good fight and collect enough mushrooms to set us free to journey to new realms.

But beware.  The brighter the sunlight, the darker the shadows.  There is a force moving through our streets, through the minds of our unsuspecting citizens.  Someone- or something doesn’t want us to leave.  Almost like they want to add us to some sort of…collection?   Be wary of the Shadow Agents.  They just might offer you your wildest dreams…or cookies… or something – be sure to resist the allure of the dark side and turn your mushrooms in to the GUILD.  NO ONE ELSE.  Got it?  Good.  Here’s what you need to do.

     

    The Game 2025 Full Instructions and Rules

    When you are ready to join the game, find The Guild table in the lobby.

    Guild hours are 

    Friday 3-7:30

    Saturday 10 -7:30 

    Sunday 10 -1:00

    You will be asked to register with
    the Guild and will receive your Quest Handbook, which has many pages of quests you can complete.

    2. You must complete different types of Quests for which you will receive mushroom stickers.

    3. Once you have received:

    10 mushrooms – you can return to the Guild to get your Journeyman ribbon. Your 10 Mushrooms will be checked off to prove you turned them in.

    20 more mushrooms – you can return to the Guild to get your Master ribbon.  Your 20 Mushrooms will be checked off to prove you turned them in. 

    50 TOTAL mushrooms or more-you can return to the Guild to get your Adept ribbon

    IF YOU LOSE YOUR HANDBOOK YOU CAN GET ANOTHER ONE BUT YOU WILL BE
    CONSIDERED TO HAVE LOST ALL PROGRESS – BUSTED BACK DOWN TO APPRENTICE RANK. PROTECT YOUR BOOK – UNATTENDED QUEST BOOKS MIGHT END UP IN THE HANDS OF A SHADOW AGENT!

    Quest types

    Charisma – Interact with Prominent Key City Citizens who will request something of you in return for a mushroom – These citizens are listed in the booklet – visit our website and
    look at our list of Special Guests if you are unsure who these amazing folks might be.

    Constitution -Participate in our some of our “active” activities to receive the prize – The Joust, Tea Dueling, The Costume Contest, The Fashion Show, and I Cast Dancing Lights
    with Steampunk Xena

    Dexterity Quests- Show your grace under pressure by participating in the following activities – Giant Jenga, Perfection (listed as Concentration in the manual), Nerf Dueling,
    Dungeon Crawl

    Intelligence -Leveling Quests – Know More Die Less(maybe)- Tavern Puzzles, Gelatinous Cube Checkers, Jigsaw, and Ultimate Werewolf

    Equipping your party – Visit our Merchant Village and participate in the QR code scavenger hunt to find out who has mushrooms to gift you

    I Have a Contact – find Quest givers in the crowd who will ask you to perform a simple
    task for them to receive your mushroom bounty. Quest Givers will be identified by a (!)
    symbol.

      If we collect ENOUGH Magic Eating Mushrooms, Key City MAY be able to move out of these magical realms and into a bright, more advanced future. However, there seem to be Shadow Agents among us who are working on behalf of an unknown power. They walk among us like ordinary citizens, but their hearts hide a dark secret. They may try to tempt you to their side with promises and sweet words. Do not bow to their attempts to
    persuade you otherwise. If the Shadow Agents can keep us from collecting enough mushrooms, Key City may be doomed to a darker magical plane from which escape will be uncertain and difficult.

    SHADOW AGENT RULES
    Shadow Agents may try to convince you to turn over your mushrooms. If you are turned to the dark side, you will receive an identifying mark to allow other Shadow Agents to know where you stand. At this point you are ALSO considered a Shadow Agent and can
    try to subvert your friends and loved ones. You are allowed to take Quest Books that are
    left unattended – you are NOT allowed to take a Quest Book from someone’s person. It must either be left unattended or freely offered. For mushrooms to be counted as stolen away for the Shadow side they must be turned in at the drop point…which is only
    disclosed in game.

    ONLY UNMARKED MUSHROOMS WILL COUNT TOWARD YOUR
    TOTAL. IF THE PERSON HAS ALREADY “TURNED IN” THEIR MUSHROOMS THEY
    DO NOT COUNT TOWARDS YOUR TOTAL. Shadow Agents must prevent at least 50% of the total mushrooms counted at the end of the game from being turned in to prevail-

    IE: If 100 mushrooms have been turned into the Guild table then the Agents must have collected at least 50 mushrooms to prevent Key City from breaking free.

    STILL BE ABLE RECEIVE YOUR STICKER FOR PARTICIPATING EVEN THOUGH IT IS
    AFTER GAME HOURS.
